Rare winter visitor, August through April, in Lowlands region of NW corner of the county.
Habitat: Desert mountains, chaparral, canyons.
Best locations: San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido.
Note: There may be as few as only two birds that regularly winter in the county, with a few other transient winter visitors.
