Surf Scoter Melanitta perspicillata
Common winter visitor, November through April. Primarily found in Nearshore and Coastal region.
Habitat: Nearshore oceanic waters and deeper bays.
Best locations: San Diego Bay, just offshore of Imperial Beach.
Note: The most abundant duck of San Diego Bay at the beginning of the 21st century (Unitt 2004).
