Bedded ash on Whinny Hill. Capped by a lava flow the ash appears to show a thick granular layer on top of finer ash deposits, perhaps indicating a major ash emission due to a pyroclastic eruption. It is believed that the Arthur's Seat complex erupted through wet sediments and this could be the cause of such an event.
