Arthur's Seat - Location

Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland, consists at its heart of an extinct volcano some 350 million years old. Subsequent tilting, erosion and glaciation of the original volcanic crater and its associated cone, intrusions and lava flows has added a distinctive profile of steep west facing crags and gentler east facing slopes, providing a mixture of bare rock, wooded hill-side, grassy slopes and bog. The following pictures show some of the key geographical features of the park and also describe some of the wildlife that may be found there. For more on the geology of this area have a look at Arthur's Seat - Geology and http://www.glg.ed.ac.uk/courses/field/holyrood/

As well as wildlife this is also a major place for history, with hill fort remains dating back over 2000 years.
