Great-Grandmother's Bed

This is the view when lying in Breland's great-grandmother's wedding bed. The bed is a massive one, with heavy posts. I have a small ladder that I use to climb in at night. The original tester lining was red, quite stylish in the 1870's. We had it replaced with this lining a few years ago when the bed was restored. You're looking at 39 yards of silk, pleated by a true artist. I've tried this photo many times. I just can't seem to get the lighting right. I do love the pattern, though.

This is amazing! What a wonderful heirloom. I can't imagine what went into pleating that. This is a wonderful photo.

This is such a COOL shot. I love this! Like a white sunburst. Every pleat is evident. (Is it like counting sheep, if you start counting the pleats?)

I would enjoy going to sleep at night looking at this pattern. I probably would not have trouble falling off to sleep following the lines. You are so blessed to have this Gayle.

Gayle, this is lovely! How nice that you still have the bed ... that it has stayed in the family! There is sort of a ripply thing happening with the pattern in the thumbnail, (or is that my vision going???)
Guest 12-Jun-2004 15:26
What a great image Gayle:) I tried counting the pleats but lost my way after 50, there must be hundreds. The restoration must have been quite a job !

This is a surprising abstract, and I think you did very well catching it. What fun to lie in that bed.

I was hoping to get the weird effect I see when lying in the bed. If you stare at the center concentric rings seem to ripple out. Makes you close your eyes and go to sleep quickly!

Great design and nicely done. I love canopies over my head when I sleep. Something comforting in being enclosed a bit
