Red after dark

Screech owls are very active after sunset. This is the most interesting time to observe them in their natural habitat. Instead of the sleepy owl you see in the daytime roost, it is now alert to every sound and movement. The best way to get a better look if you must, is to do it very slowly. Any fast movement will just make the owl fly away. Use a long lens so you can keep your distance.

Thanks to both. I have been doing this for close to 2 decades so have quite a bit of experience on how to approach owls. No books but if I were to do a calendar it would strictly be for a charity.

Great shot and good advice; I've only observed this species twice in my 75+ years! V
