Late today, I saw 2 Snowy Owls. The one pictured above (appears to be a young male) was perched in a field. On the way home at dusk I saw another snowy owl perched on top of a lamp post along the highway. Only glanced up for a second in the dark.
In a typical year, snowy owls would have all disappeared from the Ottawa area (count circle) first week in April. However, this past winter saw one of the largest movement of snowy owls in the last 40 years according to some reports.
Believe it or not, there are still at least 5 snowy owls in some of the northeastern States as of today.
