A steady stream of cars pulled over to have a close-up look at this incredibly tame great gray owl percehd right next to the road on Huntmar Drive. Kids would get as close as 4 feet without spooking the owl to take a photo with a smart phone. The owl was very accommodating. Unfortunately it did fly a couple of times but I did not see what happened but guess they must have walked right up to the owl....guessing to touch it or see how close they could get. Kids being kids. Locals say two owls have been seen in the area.
The owl was alert and hunting late in the day, mostly from low perches. Some think this owl's behaviour is suspect because it roosts in the open only a foot off the ground and allows people to get so close to it.
