The shots with the Sharpie and waxwing were due in part to being at the right place at the right time and careful observation beforehand. There are many berry and crabapple trees in the area. The waxwings could go to any one of them and the trees are widely spread apart. What to do?
It can be frustrating to follow them around. After much of that I took a portable stool, sat me down and just observed their behaviour for some time. I noticed what part of the arboretum they liked to fly to, how often and why.
