Seville

Seville (Sevilla) is the largest city in Andalusia - an autonomous region of spain. It is also the capital city of this region. It is situated on the plains of the River Guadalquivir. Seville houses three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Alcázar palace complex, the Cathedral and the General Archive of the Indies. The Seville harbour, is the only river port in Spain. Seville was founded as the Roman city of Hispalis, During the Muslim rule from early 8th century in Spain, Seville was under the Caliphate of Córdoba and then under various other rulers as independant area and finally incorporated into the Christian Kingdom of Castile under Ferdinand III in 13th Century. Seville's port monopolized the trans-oceanic trade for a very long time. Ferdinand Magellan departed from Seville for the first circumnavigation of the Earth.
