Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" opened in 2001 and is located at Spata, a town at the eastern part of Athens in the middle of Mesogaian plain. During the construction of the airport many parallel archaeological excavations took place, and many treasures were discovered. In front of the Departures entrance, there are copies of the statues found during the excavations.
