stranded

Kitsilano Beach

left high and dry by a storm surge one month ago, and beyond the reach of usual high tides, this boat is still stranded at Kitsilano Beach...seems the Parks Board has a big problem to deal with

Very dramatic B&W rendering, David.

The strong diagonal lines, stellar tones and contrasting values make a very dynamic capture. I think the lighting, and foreboding sky helps enhance the unsettling mood created by the predicament of this sailboat. I can still sense the storm in your image. VVV+++

What a shame. Love this closeup photo of it. Looks so good in black and white. V

A very dramatic image in black and white and with the POV. I can’t image how the boat would be gotten out of there. V

An unfortunate happening.
You made a really compelling composition here and very neat in fine black and white!

Yikes. You'd think it would be claimed by now...

a beautiful image of this beautiful sailboat, stranded which deserves to be refurbished. B&W accentuates the dramatic side! V

A nice capture of this sad beached boat.
Gill Kopy27-Apr-2021 03:58
Surprising no one has taken the engine !! Makes for a dramatic image - perfect in B&W V

Fascinating story, especially as augmented by Don's comment. I love the photo though. I like how you really filled the frame and how eye catching it looks in mono. ~BV~

One would think the owner would have some interest in recovering the boat, or it that left up to the insurance company.
bill friedlander26-Apr-2021 23:31
It will be difficult to drag it to the water with all the logs along the shore.

Because I am a glutton for punishment, I looked up the (national) Wrecked, Abandoned or Hazardous Vessels Act. After 15 minutes of reading mind-numbing definitions and cross referencing various sections and subsections I found that a stranded vessel is considered a "wreck" and that it is an offense to let a vessel become a wreck "by reason of failing to maintain it", and that if found guilty of that offense you have to pay a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $300,000 or up to six months in prison, or both. But the Act does not clarify if having a storm blow your boat on the beach constitutes a "failure to maintain" that boat.

I've yet to read a Canadian law that gives any impression that it was written with the goal of being comprehensible to human beings.

Excellent composition and interesting
issues behind the stranded boat wreck.

Great composition and conversion

Not a welcome sight for the owner for sure. Love how the high contrast B&W adds to the drama.
Nirvan Hope26-Apr-2021 17:45
Oops. Looks like it might have to be airlifted out of there!
John Hamers26-Apr-2021 16:55
Great perspective and choice of B&W. They wait for an unsual high tide I suppose. V!
Helen Betts26-Apr-2021 16:45
Even though the boat is stationary, quite a dramatic capture of it from this perspective.
Walter Otto Koenig26-Apr-2021 16:30
Well composed from this angle. I like the crop and choice of b&w. Interesting that the owner has left it there for a month.
