trend

Bay of Islands, New Zealand

a downwards trend has set in to the camera business these days...production and sales of SLRs and mirrorless cameras are lessening, and compact cameras are even more seriously affected, now representing less than 50% of the market...improved performance from smart phones is of course a major factor in the shift...from 121 million cameras produced in 2010, the year 2018 saw a drop to 19 million

Very interesting image. I think only the older generation still uses compact cameras. V

That's a huge drop in camera manufacturing! I still like having my DSLR + compact camera. The cell phone does fine but is not good in low-light situations. I'm guessing it's due to sensor size. V

Wow, I didn't realize there was that big of a drop.

The saying is that the best camera is the one that's with you and that's more than often your smart phone....
Already, phone cameras are better than a 5-year-old compact camera...V

Great candid! V!

With technology advances, one wonders how long we're going to have to haul our weighty stuff around !!!

This is a really interesting image.
These folks are very intent on getting the shot.

All serious with this subject, A sign of the times.

What cameras and photography software will be capable of in the future will be amazing. There will be few technical or cost barriers. It will be about the Art of Seeing. A lame photograph that has nothing to say will still be no better that a lame painting. That will never change. V

I think the quality of cellphone photography will increase much in the future. A fantastic shot!

Nice to see people taking pictures, even more so now with excellent cameras in cell phones, and interesting information about cameras produced.

How they hold the camera steady like that I will never know. Very nice story telling image.

Then this will one day be an historical photo! I knew camera sales were down, but had no idea by that much. Since I don't own a cellphone, much less one with a camera, I'll still be buying cameras! V

Definitely see your point and this is a great shot to emphasize it.

Nice candid shot David. BIG changes in picture-taking for sure since the debut of digital.
Colin Storey11-Aug-2019 17:59
Great candid, that's a scary decline in numbers.
Walter Otto Koenig11-Aug-2019 17:23
Interesting candid. They are totally absorbed by their subject. All I can say is, I would not want to own a camera store.
Blandine Mangin11-Aug-2019 16:57
ils sont bien pratiques, ces petits appareils parfois, mais ça ne vaut pas un bon réflex ! jolie prise ! v
