progress

progress isn't always pretty...loud crashing sounds reverberated around the neighbourhood a few days ago, so, despite intense rain, went to investigate...yet another older home was being demolished...urban renewal seems unstoppable these days

thanks for the support regarding the recent computer problems...all is sorted now, so finally back up and running again

Very sad. Urban renewal often ruins neighborhoods
Sam Rua04-Nov-2014 17:29
Hopefully the new dwelling will fit within the established quaint architecture. Some of the new stuff I saw in the area really seemed out of place.

Let's hope it really is progress. Glad to see you back, David. V

Nice action photo. It's a wonder they let you get so close. Vote.

Another one bites the dust. Too bad they didn't save that pretty window, and who knows what else.
Fong Lam03-Nov-2014 13:36
Old homes have to make way for newer ones...quite a robust window there..V

It would be sad if this was a well built and nice home that could have been renovated. Excellent reportage shot. V

Great capture in the perfect moment! V!

Hopefully they salvaged everything they could before the backhoe arrived.

Here, this little home would be replace by an intrusive monster home.
woody3403-Nov-2014 04:07
Sad isn't it..wonder what will replace it.V

A sad sight to see, not only is an old building lost, but more than likely it's replacement will not be as well built. Not to mention that the character of the neighborhood is changed.

Not a pretty sight ! Nothing is for ever !!

I hate to see this, it fills me with sadness and frustration. Everyone wants bigger, newer, "better"... this ain't progress. But I love your documentary shot. V
Richard Marcus02-Nov-2014 19:59
Hate to see history wiped away so easily. Hopefully, something meaningful will take its place.
Glenn Dean (Vatorman)02-Nov-2014 19:27
Progress with a question mark. Form the looks of the window -
a) they salvaged nothing; and
b) looked to be a home of character.
Either way, a great PoV David as this cat claws its way through the splinters.

Ouch! another one bites the dust. Superb and telling image…well done. V
Neil Marcus02-Nov-2014 19:13
Sad..to me. I used to build houses. Seeing how easily they can be destroyed is rattling
Peter Sussex02-Nov-2014 19:00
Hope the development goes into the right direction, preserving the characteristic and ambiance of the neighbourhood. V
Martin Lamoon02-Nov-2014 18:58
Sometimes its for the best, but I hope they leave some to remind us of what it was like.

There goes the Neighbourhood.
Phillip Normanton02-Nov-2014 17:36
The new one should look good when it's built tho :o)
Johnny JAG02-Nov-2014 17:26
Hopefully it'll be worth it.
Helen Betts02-Nov-2014 17:17
Great capture of the action, but personally I find this kind of thing so sad. Especially considering what they usually replace these old houses with... V.
