Cliff Palace, Mesa Verde, Colorado

building their communities under cliffs clearly offered the residents shelter from both weather and enemies..the round structure in the foreground is a kiva, apparently used for meetings of a ceremonial nature

I was wondering what the round structures were used for. Love how you composed this shot with the cliff swooping down and protecting the homes. Terrific. V
