Yellow Toadflax or Butter and Eggs - linaria vulgaris

Kittatinny Valley State Park, Andover, New Jersey

This wildflower or weed grows mostly in the New England states, but now it has made its way down into northern New Jersey.
It has toxic chemical compounds that are poisonous to cattle. Usually cattle dislike both its taste and odour, so poisonings from grazing are rare. Hay with a high toadflax content has the potential to cause poisoning, as cattle have more difficulty avoiding the plant in hay.
