  Rob Millikin (UL/YZ)

Millikin, Robin Leigh 1931–2011. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. (Rob) Millikin. At the age of 79, Rob died on Monday February 14, 2011 and was predeceased by his loving wife Carolyn Elspeth, and parents Keith and Violet Millikin. He was a devoted husband and father; he leaves behind his sons Steven (Terry), Lloyd (Sherry), and his daughter Diane Christina. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Jennifer (Kamil), Shannon, Julien, Chelsea and Michael, Ryan and Brittany; his great grandchildren Dominik and Evalina; his brother Douglas (Dorrie) his nephews and nieces Brenda, Keith (Bev) and Colleen (Bill) as well as Rebecca, Jonathon, Marlene, and Robbie, his grand nieces and grand nephews.

Rob had a varied and fulfilling career as an air traffic controller (1955 to 1989). Rob served at Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto, retiring from transport Canada, as Manager of the Control Tower, Lester B. Pearson International Airport (1989). Rob was an avid sailor and a private pilot. In his retirement Rob was heavily involved in the founding of the Durham Rowing Club, and the inaugural Head Coach of Varsity rowing program at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, (UOIT) 2006–2009. Rob was well respected by his colleagues, and received several awards from Rowing Canada and Row Ontario for his contributions to the sport as an administrator, official and coach over the years.

You are invited to a Celebration of Rob’s life to be held at St. George’s Memorial Anglican Church, Oshawa on Friday February 18th, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Private family interment in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Grimsby, Ontario. Memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

from Phil Gies: Rob was my IFR instructor on the West Side in Montreal Centre back in 1969. I remember his ready smile and his quick laugh. He loved to play bridge as well and in those days we managed to play a few hands during a break. I was fortunate to know him.
