from Phil Gies: Bill was a dominant personality in the '60s in Montreal - no small compliment as Montreal had no shortage of capable controllers. He was not only quite intelligent, but was a leader as well and was CATCA's regional counselor in Quebec during those turbulent early years of CATCA. Bill was one of the original DSMs (Data Systems Manager) in Canada and helped implement IFDAPS in Montreal. He went on to hold several more senior management positions in Ottawa. Bill could always be counted on to provide well informed, articulate and honest opinions and direction. I consider myself very fortunate to have worked with Bill twice in my career. I valued his friendship.
