PENNEY, Bertram John 'Jack'
Past Master Mason, Ashlar Lodge
Born Dolbeau, QC July 27, 1934 to Bertram and Margaret (Whitson) Penney. Sadly left us on October 12, 2022 in the company of Karen and Brian after a determined and brave battle with various health issues.
Devoted husband to Muriel (Mickie) for 59 years. Loving father to Karen (Brian) and Brent (Tanya). Extremely proud Gran of Taylor John (Evelyn Nelson) and Chelsea Ilene (Jordan Wilson). He leaves behind his brother Brian Penney (Martine), nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by sister, Elizabeth Tremblay (Bert).
He started his career as a weather person and then went on to become an Air Traffic Controller, a career he thoroughly enjoyed. Upon his retirement, Jack taught Air Traffic Control at the Department of Transport Training School in Cornwall.
He always enjoyed a round of golf, beaches in Maine and Florida, a good laugh and a nip of scotch. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family who were the most important to him.
Our family wishes to thank the dedicated and caring staff at Park Place, who supported Jack these last few months. We also want to thank friends Lorne, Norm and Al for their weekly visits to Jack to share stories and a treat!
Jack was a gentle man who was always ready to help and he will be greatly missed. Til we meet again!
Cremation has taken place. Graveside service will be held in Spring 2023.
from Foster Richardson: What a loss, perhaps the nicest, kindest and overall one of the best fellow workers I’ve had the pleasure of not only working with but also having as a true friend.
from Phil Gies: Jack, sometimes called Jake although I never knew why, was certainly one of best liked controllers in UL ACC back in the '60s and early '70s. A very capable controller and good friend to many, he was also renowned for his incredible memory for names and then family details of people he had met in his past. If he heard your name once, he remembered it.
Rip John, Jack. Jake.
