Over 200 years ago the River Neath was undercutting this rock with the South Wales coal measures above it. Miners needing access to the silica mines in the gorge built a tramway which altered the course of the river. That tramway is now the footpath for visitors to walk along this stunning walk in 'Waterfall Country' the Neath Valley.
