Cyfartha Park was the home of the ironmaster William Crawshay in 1824/5. The main house overlooked this lake which was built as an attraction but had very important purpose with feeding water to the Cyfartha Ironworks when the water in the River Taff was at low levels. From the photograph the ironworks were found to the right.
