The Resort was opened in 1983 by former President Soeharto and became the first five-star resort built in the southern enclave of Nusa Dua.
The roof of the resort is not higher than the coconut trees.
Locals consider coconut trees sacred symbols of life and fertility. The average height of coconut trees on the island is 15 meters.
The construction of houses above this height is seen as a violation of the sacred connection with nature and may, according to some, attract the wrath of the gods to the island. That is why no skyscrapers in Bali.
