Buenos Aires: Autopista 25 de Mayo

A romanticist glance suggests not “what is” but rather “what could be”.
G.B. Piranesi’s etchings from the 18th Century suggested such an interpretation
in his recording of Roman ruins. In looking at 20th Century urban landscapes with
this subjective filter in mind, one discovers essential conditions of human inhabitation.
Ruins become infrastructure, and infrastructure becomes landscape.
The photographic frame - as a projection of the romanticist glance- serves as an
amplifier of suggestive moments in these landscapes, exploring the beauty of the
derelict and the quiet dignity of the abandoned. GS.
