Bloody Basin Forest Road 269 in Arizona

A trip through the Agua Fria National Monument ending at Sheep's Bridge at the Verde River in central Arizona. The adventure was 86 miles round-trip including a few side trips down forest roads. We saw the largest western diamondback rattle snake we've ever seen - five feet plus and as big around as a man's forearm. The trip terminated at Sheep's Bridge, a single line suspension bridge built to allow sheep to cross the Verde River.

I remember as a kid, Wright's cabin, when it was there. Sheep being herded across the original bridge. The cowboy's camped there to keep the cattle and the sheep from mischief. My grandfather was best friends with Mr. Wright. He followed my grandfather's family, on horseback, by himself, in 1912. That's when my dad's family moved from Texas to here. My dad and uncles help him trap, and kill mountain lions in the area for the ranchers. He had a house in Mayer as well. I remember a Jaguar pelt over the fire place that was killed around the basin in the 20's.
