Once we arrived at our likely location, we started playing the saw-whet recording. We never heard one of these owls, but two Western screech-owls did respond and flew in to investigate. We spent quite awhile photographing these birds before moving to a different location. We had similar results there, calling up another (or perhaps the same) pair of screech-owls. It was after midnight before we left. Luckily, we didn’t have far to go to get back home.
