Williamson's Sapsucker

In addition to the ubiquitous Juncos, we noted a few Mountain Chickadees. Then, my friend spotted an unusual woodpecker. When we were able to approach more closely, he realized that it was a Williamson’s Sapsucker. These are considered to occur only “accidentally” in this area. We had seen a female in Cimarron County a couple years previously, but this was a nice male. I was able to get a couple photographs showing its bright yellow underbelly and the red patch under his chin.
