Jimson Weed

The next day, the wind came up and we knew that conditions would not be conducive to finding many birds. Still, we drove out to an abandoned farmstead where there were some large cottonwood and cedar trees. In a corner of a meadow near the trees was a large patch of Jimson weed. These were dead and dry but the pods have some pretty nasty thorns. It is considered an invasive weed and likely originated in Central America. It has been used to treat a variety of ailments. However, because of its strong psychoactive (hallucinogenic) effects and high toxicity, its use has been limited.
