We had such great success with the saw-whet, we decided to try for a Long-eared owl. These birds rarely respond with their own call. It is even more rare that one would fly in to investigate and perch in the open. Normally, when they are found, they are spotted on a day roost in thick cover in some secluded area. However, we were in good habitat and wanted to give it a try.
