Carrizo Canyon is very picturesque and seems always to have scores of mule deer and bighorn sheep. They were easy to spot in a feed plot next to the road that runs along the creek, but it was getting too late in the day to photograph them. Instead, we hiked a short distance off the road to explore an abandoned homestead site. Besides the log cabin, there was a cattle pen and a rocked catchment basin to collect water flowing from a spring at the foot of a rock bluff.
