Mottled Salamander

After turning over a few logs, my friend located a Marbled Salamander, and a short time later, a second. According to the Oklahoma D e p a r t m e n t o f W i l d l i f e C o n s e r v a t i o n https://www.wildlifedepartment.com/wildlife/nongamespecies/marbled￾salamander), marbled salamanders have a black, body with 7 to 16 light bands across the back and tail. Males tend to have white bands while the bands on females tend to be gray. The bands on the two we found were more grayish in color, so they were probably females. Their rang map shows their Oklahoma range to be limited to the far southeastern portion of the state.
