Cystosoma schmeltzi

Coolatai, NSW Australia

These pretty cicadas call at dusk. The males have a massive hollow (if that isn't an oxymoron) abdomen, hence the common name
"bladder cicada". This abdomen is used as a resonating chamber when they call. Unlike most species of cicada, bladder cicadas have
opaque wings that camouflage them amongst the foliage.
