Les soldats américains enterrés dans ce cimetière ne représentaient qu'une infime partie des morts du débarquement de Normandie. Plus de 4000 soldats américains étaient inhumés au cimetière américain de Bretagne, 10489 au cimetière de Saint-Avold et 5255 au cimetière américain d'Épinal, tous situés en France. Sans compter ceux qui ont péri en mer et n'ont jamais été inhumés, et ceux dont les familles ont demandé le rapatriement pour être enterrés aux États-Unis.

The American soldiers who were buried in this cemetery were just a fraction of the total of who died in the Normandy invasion. There were 4,000+ buried in Brittany American Cemetery, 10,489 in St Avold Cemetery, 5,255 in Epinal American Cemetery, all in France, plus those who lost their lives at sea and were never buried, and plus those who were requested by their families to be repatriated home to be buried in the U.S.
