This very fragile, forbiddingly placed fort is about 1000 years old and has been restored to its present glory in the past 5 years as a musuem - a truly warm and grand place to visit. It is also the ancestral home of the Mir (King) of the Hunza people. The Hunza monarch desendants are still around, in secular roles - I met the present Mir and Queen of Hunza in this trip and received an invitation to stay with them. WOW!!!
