Montrose, IA
It was a gorgeous June sunset on the Mississippi River at Montrose, Iowa, just south of Ft. Madison. The year was 2005. We had enjoyed a leisurely dinner on the river (literally) on the No Wake Café (a converted workboat with a great history and ambiance).
Montrose is an historic river town. The Dragoons that first explored the Des Moines River in 1835 were headquartered there, and there are fitting memorials to be seen. Montrose also played an important role in the Mormon migration to Utah, being directly across the river from Nauvoo, IL.
