Udaipur and Ranakpur

We began our journey in the lovely city of Udaipur (the discovery by western travellers, of which, has led to the colloquial naming of Venice as the Udaipur of the west).

Also known as the city of lakes, things we saw in Udaipur include:
- The shimmering Taj Lake Palace hotel
- The City Palace (the second largest palace in Rajasthan as everyone there will have you know)
- Sajjan Garh (the incomplete 'Monsoon Palace', made famous as the residence of the arch-villain in the movie Octopussy)
- Jagmandir Island, one of three islands on the lake

- The Ranakpur temple, one of the finest examples of Jain marble architecture, along with the Dilwara temples at Mount Abu
