Over half an inch in size, this mosquito (Psorophora ciliata) is trying to feed through a leather boot!?! Perhaps the largest mosquito in our region, this fellow can apparently pierce through clothing to get at its prey. The best way for me to describe just how big it is is to say that you are reluctant to smack it when it lands on you, for fear of the blood and guts that it will leave behind on your body. Note that it is trying to penetrate the leather boot of my colleague.
