We have seen this great pot before. It is near the outside wall in one of the houses at Dier el Madina. I am the Potters Apprentice, Summer School and one Semester do not a Potter make, even I find excellence in this domestic thing. Look how beautifully it has been raised on the wheel, probably over ten kilo body just to begin. The lower third carefully thicker to allow support for the curve to the throat. Lovely work. Beautifully fired as well. Made from successive coils of clay , with wheel raising and drying in the sun, this is termed coil and throw. The base, no foot, coned to sit down in the sand floor where the weight and contents counter balance it into stability.
I wonder what domestic tragedy broke it. Was it fight, flight , or negotiation that failed or did one of the kids bump into it while playing in the pantry.
