Galleria Regina Maritimae

We two In Mates of Rusticana had some small debate about this gallery but when Robaire learnt the extent of Wazza's work, talk ceased and compilation commenced. From an historical point of view, our awareness
of the Queens goes back to the black days of WW2. In those years the grey painted vessels transported troops to Europe and were just too big not to be noticed by young schoolboys on ferries. We believe that the Queen Mary was reconfigured in OZ to provide double the decks to carry more troops. We also believe that the unfitted new Queen Elizabeth was actually sailed to OZ before interior deck work was commenced.NB:.................. See end of gallery for two pics of Queen Mary taken by Rob's father in 1939/40. Negatives found March 2009.

We shall amend these comments of any inaccuracies when/if we become aware of them. Suffice to say, the Queen Mary 2 arrival here last year with the Queen Elizabeth 2 was enough to stir anyone. And last week to have the brand new Queen Victoria arrive on her maiden voyage, just months old AND to have Queen Elizabeth 2 also here on her last voyage: well, how good does it get. Here were these two huge ships swanning around TINY Fort Dennison in the middle of the harbour as the sun set, with hundreds of boats and thousands of people afloat and ashore loving every minute of it. Hopefully Other Mates may have more images and if so they will be added.

The shots with Robaires signature were taken on long lens from the Kirribilli Point looking towards the Overseas Terminal in The Rocks. Kirribilli and The Rocks are both named in Google Earth. Dial in Sydney Harbourwith Borders and Labels checked. Turn off the checkbox and you can see a large vessel moored to the International terminal, right under the T in The Rocks.
Wazzas shots are from Cremorne Point, also Googled and straight across the Harbour into the Naval Dockyard where the QE2 was originally prior to the sail past. The Dock Yard is not named on the default screen size. Hit the enlarge +. And navigate to Garden Island, you can see ships moored. And Fort Dennison in mid harbour, the Martello should be familiar.
