Cats,
Something kept in the family circle by Egyptophiles. The Hieroglyphs for cat are meow.
We like to think cats are pretty special and have done now for thousands of years. Galleria Cat is a celebration of Egyptian cats, nothing posed you understand, they dont do that, only being them selves as they do.
Aegyptica cats occupy a special chapter in all our visits to Egypt. Seemed the right thing to do to search them out of the photo archive and find a place for them to lie in the sun. An impeccable ancestry dating back all those thousands of years, and zillions of purrrrs, creates a real pedigree. The big buggers out in the donga are a bit rough, the Caf cat a darling you have to smuggle home.
Egyptian cats have an affinity, they like you to be with them, from the Khan el-Khalili to Abu Simbel and the island of cats on Lake Nasser where the Kasir Ibrim Crew feeds them and it was just too hard to get the shot in the dark. You get invited into their space, their choice.
Dr Michael talks with cats . At Abu Simbel, they ran all the way across the forecourt from Nefertari to the Son et Lumiere to sit and talk. Magic stuff.
At Alexandria earlier this year el Dikka Cat talked of the Theatre and stood about with his mates in the sun, we will put him up shortly.
From the very edge of written history the glyph for Cat is M I W m ee ow. Think about it. For thousands of years in Egypt cats have been, well Cats. Doesnt get more special than that.
