Sand Hill Cranes Taking Off
by

Grantsburg Wisconsin

I took over 400 pictures this day at the Crex Meadows Wildlife Area in Granstburg Wisconsin. While I realize that I was quite a distant away from the Cranes (they spook easily - especially when they see a big yellow school bus filled with people with spotting scopes and cameras) anyway I need to know what I could have done differently. I didn't have a sharp picture in the bunch - just about all of the pictures look like this one - looks like a print or paint strokes - doesn't look like a photograph. The only editing done is to resize. I just can't figure it out.

Looks to me like your iso was too low. I would normally shoot at 400 for bird in flight. Still a good shot. I just came back from my first visit to Crex and it is a great place.

Check you color temperature (whiteBalance) Which can be corrected with PS. As far as the focus goes , this is a low contrast subject and your FZ30 may be having trouble focusing. Try manual focus.
