Milkweed beetle (Tetraopes tetrophthalmus)

These striking beetles are members of the Cerambycidae family, the long-horned beetles, and are found almost exclusively on milkweeds (and at the FWG on Dog-strangling vine, sometimes). Eggs are laid on the stems, usually at ground level, and when they hatch, the larvae enter the stems, and then head down into the roots where they spend the winter. They pupate in spring and we see the adults in summer.
