Black ducks

Lots of birds around, including 9 tree swallows yesterday (Diane reported the first ones at FWG on Monday...she has a couple of lovely photos on the FWG April blog), juncos, many goldfinches, robins, the usual suspects, with nothing new in the way of spring arrivals. I expect to see female red-winged blackbirds any day, as there were many in a large flock of blackbirds near Kanata last week. The lone golden-crowned kinglet continues to hang out at the garden. This warm spell should bring in lots more of the early migrants, many already reported from other parts of the city.

This morning at about 7 a.m., I noticed a couple of black ducks stomping around the site where the big party was a few weekends ago. They looked like they might have just pulled an all-nighter there :-)
