This patch is from the LAPD Air Support Division. Formed in 1956 with one helicopter for traffic duties, the unit has expanded to a fleet of 17 helicopters and one propellor driven plane. The choppers are equipped with much the same equipment as a regular patrol car, along with several other items including a powerful spotlight and equipment for tracking stolen cars.
