This first section of Machame route was rebuilt a few years ago, and is pretty easy walking as a result. On a drizzly day like this it would have been awful if they hadn't. One other hiker told me he came up it 4 years ago and you needed to wear your gaitors to keep your boots from getting "mud-logged".
