This little town, located almost midway between Shanghai and Hangzhou somehow escaped unscathed from the last 100 years of changes. It is now an unusual "living" historic village, with some hundreds of people still living in the houses clustered along the two main streets (the woman on her scooter is a local), which form a loop around the canal. Lots of old woodwork to be seen, and there is a wonderful collection of traditional hand-carved beds. Great place to spend an afternoon.
