China 2006

Just a portion - will have more up soon. I'll say it again - everyone should go to see this wonderful country ASAP!
Took the 5D (worked flawlessly) with three 6GB microdrives, 40GB Tripper together with the 50mm 1.4, 100macro, 70-200 2.8 (non IS), and the "old" 17-35mm 2.8
Shot RAWs + small Jpeg and needed Tripper for storage (pity that he couldn't read the 6GB drives - may get an EPSON P5000 to get around this next trip.)[update: got it and love it] - ended up reading the files into a photo store's PC, then conencting Tripper and transferring them out on one bunch. Worked pretty well, but needed a bit of explanation, as most store clerks had never seen a Tripper before.
Went to (in order) Xian (dance show, terracotta warriors, etc.), Dun Huang (dunes and Mugaoku caves), Jai Yu Guan (West end of Great Wall), Lan Zhou (Yellow River), little mountain city that I forgot the name of (Tibetan monastery named the "Labyrinth") and finally Xi Ning (nothing special but convenient for going to other far prettier places) before heading back to Xian.
Wish that I had: - used the monopod with the 70-200 at the dance show and in the museum. 200mm handheld at 1/60th of a sec. with a 13Mpix sensor is asking for trouble. - bought the newest, fastest EPSON P8000 cause Tripper is getting a bit long in the tooth, though he worked perfectly, even after be dropped onto the floor of a bus and kicked around for a few hours. - not drank so much great Chinese beer and then had a fever on the last day and didn't get that fantastic shot with the three levels of shadowy mountains reflected perfectly in the Yellow River, giving a mirror image with a total of SIX levels of shadows for one of the most beautiful shots I have ever seen (and missed). - bought another 5D, cause changing lenses was a pain.
