Unfortunately for that fish, it didn't stand a chance against voracious diners like my son-in-law and me

Even though we had had dim sum and a noodle snack only a few hours earlier, we decided to try another one of our friend Jose's recommended restaurants -- Oriental Harbour. After studying the menu and discussing what was fresh with our waitress, my son-in-law ordered tofu squares with shrimp, pork meat patty ("yook beung") with squid, steamed striped bass, bok choy, chicken in a basket ("loong jai hoi mei jing guy"), and a rice named Generous Fried Rice ("foot low chow fan") which had egg whites, shredded dried scallops, and okra.

Everything was fresh and delicious, especially the yook beung -- it was marvelously porky-tasting and unadulterated with fillers. It was drizzled with a tasty soya sauce in a style that we had not seen before. It was a wonderful surprise to find that such elegant-looking Chinese restaurant could also prepare simple, almost homestyle food so competently.

At the end of the meal, the manager casually asked who had put together our menu. It was a compliment to my son-in-law -- it was apparently well-balanced and sophisticated enough to impress this seasoned food professional.
