At the Pakistan Tea House in lower Mahattan, NYC 2/16/04

I like the $4.99 special where I get lamb or chicken with a choice of 2 vegetables. I also like the fresh bread which takes only a few minutes to make in the tandoori oven.

The women who work at the counter are from Poland and Sri Lanka. The cook is from Pakistan and can also speak Korean! (He had worked in a Pakistani restaurant in Korea for a few years.) He saw that we were adventurous and gave us sweetened milk and a special Pakistani dessert, on the house. The entire staff here was very pleasant and we had a good time practicing our English on each other. We all did a lot of smiling and nodding when we didn't quite understand each other ... it was a very good exercise in international relations.
