The underground of the "Médiathèque de Sion", brand new, state of the art!

Books, in the underground / reserve they are sorted by size only to optimize space.

When you open the Compactus system you can access the books.

Actually I could easily move 20 tons (20 bookshelves) with just one hand!

They offered us a sample of items to be found in the library, different objects from different centuries.

Out from the reserve in the bootom area of the Mediathèque. Very nice place to study. It'll be in construction for 3 years until it reopens even better and with more space in 2015.

Two hours later in the "Bibliothèque de Genève" (BGE) with first a 60 minutes visit of the restauration center where we learnt a lot about how to maintain and repair books.

Then two hours visit in the attics and cellar to see the 2M books that the BGE has.

Unlike Sion there are no such state of the art devices to protect books, just shelves and good care of the personnel.

And books again... I felt like home.

The catalog, 3M index cards for their 2M book! Part is already available online. The question is: what will they do with the cards once all is on-line? It would be sad to destroy these as they are part of the soul of the library.

The reading room, now full of laptops. For me it's OK, but what if the drives are noisy?

And in the cellar, books again.
