All roads lead to the Capitole, the heart of Toulouse since the 12th century.
The Place du Capitole is based on the famous square in Madrid.
Three-quarters of the square is lined by arcades
and the other quarter is taken up by the pink stone Town Hall, formerly a Grand Palace.
It was from here that the Capitole ruled Toulouse during its independence in the Middle Ages
and is the site where a few decades earlier
the Duc de Montmorency was assassinated.
